Tri-iso distributes a wide range of aliphatic isocyanates that allow formulators to produce high quality polyurethane and polyurea adhesives. Isocyanates contain reactive NCO groups which react with hydroxyl groups on polyols to form polyurethanes and amines on polyamines to form polyureas. Aliphatic isocyanates are isocyanates where the NCO group is not directly attached to an aromatic ring. Aliphatic isocyanates produce UV stable, colorless and transparent polyurethane adhesives. Consequently, aliphatic isocyanates are often used to produce polyurethane systems that will be exposed to the environment and/or have very demanding performance requirements.
There are several key characteristics which define what performance properties a given aliphatic isocyanate will impart in a given polyurethane system. These characteristics include: the NCO equivalent weight, the %NCO, and the functionality of the isocyanate.
NCO equivalent weight is the number of grams of a given product that contains one equivalent of isocyanate groups (NCO). One equivalent of NCO groups is 42.02 grams/mol
%NCO = 4202/NCO equivalent weight.
Isocyanate functionality refers to the number of NCO groups per molecule. Increasing the number of NCO groups results in greater crosslinking. Greater crosslinking yields stiffer, harder products with enhanced chemical and thermal resistance.
Tri-iso distributes aliphatic isocyanates based on hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer (HDI Trimer), hexamethylene diisocyanagte biuret (HDI Biuret), and fully hydrogenated diphenyl methylene diisocyanate (H12MDI). Additionally, Tri-iso distributes blocked aliphatic isocyantes to produce 1K stable polyurethane and polyurea systems.
